Hague Update News Release

A major milestone in the implementation of the Hague Convention was reached on February 29, 2008, when the US Department of State released the initial list of adoption services providers who have received Hague accreditation. For a list of these agencies:

http://www.travel.state.gov/family/adoption/convention/convention_4169.html#.

The Mary Kendall Adoption Program applauds the hard work, commitment and service of these providers who have received their Hague accreditation. Other providers are completing the accreditation process and the US Department of State will update their website as accreditations are completed.

The Mary Kendall Adoption Program was not required to become accredited, but instead is able to act as an exempted provider or a supervised provider for adoptions from Hague countries in cooperation with a Hague-accredited adoption services provider. As a provider of homestudy and post-adoption services, the Mary Kendall Adoption Program will be an exempted provider. The homestudy prepared by MKAP must be submitted to an accredited agency or temporarily accredited agency for review and approval. In cases requiring post-placement services, the MKAP will act as a supervised provider (under formal agreement with the accredited agency).

For prospective adoptive parents adopting from Hague or non-Hague countries, our services will not change. The Mary Kendall Adoption Program will continue to provide quality homestudy services to our clients and will work in cooperation with the clients’ primary provider (child-placing agency) to ensure that the homestudy, counseling and education requirements are fulfilled.
